The Thunderbird Lodge is located in the heart of the Grand Canyon Historic District, at the Canyon Rim between the Bright Angel Lodge and hotel El Tovar. Built in 1968, the Thunderbird Lodge offers an ideal location for hiking and exploring the canyon. The location on the South Rim also makes it easy to get out early to see the sun rise.
Thunderbird Lodge is walking distance to restaurants, shops and the Bright Angel Trail Head, making it a great choice for active visitors. The views along this trail are phenomenal.
Rooms
(total 55) with 1 king or 2 queen-size beds and bath / shower, hairdryer, flat screen TV, telephone, Keurig coffee maker, fridge, safe, iron / ironing board. If you aren’t looking for luxury, Thunderbird offers clean, comfortable lodging with all the necessary creature comforts, and with location that can’t be faulted. Some rooms have partial canyon views. An early morning deer visit may be in store for guests.

Check-in takes place at the Bright Angel Lodge instead of Thunderbird Lodge. Hotel parking is available at both hotels.
The bus stop for the “Hikers’ Express” bus is right in front of the Thunderbird Lodge. This free shuttle takes you to the South Kaibab trail with the least amount of stops. It has limited times in the early morning, on the hour.
