News | Grand Canyon condor chicks season update
Some good news for a change. Three condor chicks hatched earlier this year in the wild. Two of the three birds are doing well. The third was found dead below it’s nest cave in the Grand Canyon. The three young birds set a record this year for condors born in the wild. It’s the best year for chicks since the recovery program was put into place in the Grand Canyon region in 1996.
The condor recovery effort is a cooperative program by federal, state, and private partners, including the Arizona Game and Fish Department, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, Kaibab and Dixie national forests, and Zion National Park.
