Canyon With A Cause – Nurse Hikes The Canyon For Unique Fundraiser
Everyone can heal. And everyone can make a difference. You do not need an educational degree or special qualifications. All you need is the will to make a difference and of course that much needed dash of determination. A nurse from St Austell is out to prove just this simple premise. And that no effort is too small to support a worthy cause.
Nicola Hollis, 42, who works at St Austell Hospital, Cornwall is an experienced nurse who happened to visit a Children’s Hospice facility at Little Harbor South West. She was blown away by the care that was being provided to various families and that too, in meticulous detail. In spite of being short on funds, she realized that the quality of care being offered at Little Harbor was not affected. She wants to make sure it stays this way and wishes to contribute in its upkeep and expansion plans in a small but significant way.
Nicola will trek the Grand Canyon in May 2013. And she aims to raise at least £3,500 to support “Little Harbour”. Her Grand Canyon Hike will involve a week long challenge and will consist of an arduous climb down to the Canyon and camping at an Indian reservation.
Children’s Hospice South West helps support children and their families who are living with life-limiting conditions and is an organization which offers 24/7 care to families all year round. Currently the facility is providing care for 400 families, and is looking to reach out to at least a 1000. Little Harbor offers palliative care, emergency care and sometimes even a planned respite. It acts as a haven of sorts, a sanctuary for mums and dads, brothers and sisters and offers expert advice and counsel to get families back on track again.
The Grand Canyon is fast becoming the common man’s Mount Everest, with an increasing number of individuals willing to take on some of its arduous terrains. If you believe in making a small but collective difference, help Nicola Hollis, fulfill her personal dream now.
