Daniel “Colt” Collins shares his Grand Canyon Adventure
From Landscapes and wildlife to history and adventure, what’s the one thing about the Grand Canyon that has intrigued you?
We first arrived at the rim just as a rainstorm broke and an incredible double-rainbow stretched across the sky down into the depths of the Canyon. Stepping up to the rim with my dad at that moment and witnessing the purity of nature in that way is a memory that will be with me forever.
If this your first visit to the Canyon, what is motivating you to visit? If this a revisit, what’s your reason for wanting more?
I wish our visit could have lasted long enough to include a hike all the way down, a night spent camping in the Canyon itself, and a rafting trip. My first taste definitely left me wanting more, and I will be back.
What are five things your Backpack to the Canyon must contain?
lemon-lime Gatorade, trail mix with M&M’s, shades, a bandana, and a phone with Instagram
What according to you is the best way to get to the Grand Canyon – By Air, By Road or By Rail?
Road tripping along the Canyon allows you to stop at any moment to take in a particularly picturesque scene, though you may not make very good progress if you can’t help but pull over every couple hundred yards like we did.
What is travel to you in one word?
adventure.
On your travels, what would you choose a book or a camera, and why?
A phone with a book and a camera app… or is that cheating? It’s all about Instagram when I travel.
As a travel destination, how would you rank the Grand Canyon from 1 to 10?
10
Tell us a little about yourself! This will be included on the web site. What brought you to Grand Canyon? Where are you from? What do you do? What are your influences?
I’m originally from Buffalo, NY, and I’ve lived/worked in Orange County, CA between semesters at Notre Dame Law School. I’ve always marveled at the tangible presence of God that I’ve experienced through nature’s beauty, and I was blessed with the opportunity to take in the awe-inspiring magnificence of the Grand Canyon with my dad for two days during our latest road trip back home.
