Earth Day 2013 Celebrations start today at Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon National Park will be celebrating Earth day with fun and educational activities. The Earth Day activities begin Friday at 5:30 with a free screening of the movie “Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time” at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center IMAX theater.
On Saturday at 7:30 pm, at the Shrine of Ages, Grand Canyon’s Green Team will present environmental author Marry Ellen Hannibal. Hannibal will talk about the critical nature of wildlife corridors and review the history of America’s native habitats found within national parks.
On Sunday, The National Park Service is hosting an open-house style Earth Day celebration at the Grand Canyon Visitor plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The celebration will include demonstrations, games and educational activities. The day will conclude with a trash pick-up along the rim at 2:30 p.m.
All activities are family friendly and free. Organizers welcome anyone who would like to volunteer.
