North Rim Campsite Under New Ownership

Finding a quality campsite with all the proper hookups for campers and RVs will be easier for travelers looking for a spot near the North Rim. The Kaibab Camper Village was purchased this past January by Chris and Ellen Winchester and is currently accepting reservations for the summer and fall seasons.

The Kaibab Camper Village is the only privately owned and operated campground located at the Grand Canyon’s North Rim. The campground offers 98 tent and RV sites along with the two rental cabins for visitors to reserve. Kaibab Camper Village also offers 30 amp electrical connections, coin operated laundry, sewer and water service, a camp store, and showering facilities. Campers can also enjoy the view of Jacob Lake, a pond located on the grounds.

Before purchasing the campground, the Winchesters managed the Jacob Lake Campground and the DeMotte Campground for over five years on the Kaibab Plateau. Chris Winchester remembered his time in the Kaibab Lodge area during his days as a college student, falling in love with the place. After he and his wife, Ellen, learned that the area was for sale, they made a bid for the campground and the Kaibab Lodge.

The Kaibab Lodge is located near the campsite and offers 31 rooms in separate buildings and cabins, all of which were built within 27 acres of ponderosa pine trees. The lodge also has a 63-seat restaurant that serves breakfast and dinner during the summer months. The restaurant offers a variety of home-cooked meals each day, including gluten-free options.

Visitors are encouraged to reserve their spot early, as the Kaibab Camper Village is only open from May 14th through October 14th each year to coincide when the North Rim is open to the general public.
