Daredevil Nik Wallenda to tightrope Grand Canyon June 2013
Daredevil Nik Wallenda, famous for his Niagara Falls tightrope walk, has announced he will be performing his highwire act across the Grand Canyon. The walk will be 2,000 ft. over the mighty Colorado River. The exact location is yet to be announced.
This time out, Wallenda will not be using the infamous “safety harness” that he was forced to use in Niagara Falls by television sponsor ABC. The network required him to use the harness to avoid having a death televised if anything went wrong. Wallenda felt the harness actually made the stunt more difficult.
The stunt will not take place at the Grand Canyon National Park. There are two Arizona Indian tribes that have reservations at the Grand Canyon. The location will depend on which Indian reserve accepts the terms.
