Historic El Tovar, a Grand Icon at Canyon, is Getting Another Face-Lift
The historic 78-room hotel, which opened in 1905 and has hosted U.S. presidents including Theodore Roosevelt and Bill Clinton, will close from Jan. 2 through April 10 for the renovation, taking the area’s premier lodging option out of the lineup into spring-break season.

Blind Man Covers the Full Length of the Grand Canyon Kayaking
A blind Navy veteran from southwestern Indiana is celebrating the accomplishment of finishing a 226-mile kayaking trip covering the full length of the Grand Canyon. Lonnie Bedwell of Dugger lost his sight in a hunting accident 16 years ago. He became involved with the Team River Runner veterans group last year and started going on kayaking trips with its members.

Major development outside Grand Canyon Hits Snag
Thousands of tourists each day drive past Tusayan’s scattering of modest hotels, restaurants and gift shops, listening as helicopters buzz overhead on their way to the Grand Canyon’s South Rim. Developers have sought for decades to seize on the heavy traffic in the town of about 600, just outside the national park’s entrance.
