Grand Canyon North Rim Highway Closing

The Arizona Department of Transportation has announced that the highway to the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Northern Arizona will close Tuesday December 4th for the season. Snow will not be cleared off the road to the North Rim. The highway reopens early May. The South Rim, home to the IMAX Theatre and Visitor Center remains open all year.

The ADOT notes that vehicles heading into snow country should follow this advice:

  • Drive defensively
  • Make sure you fill up your vehicle with fuel
  • GPS systems may not take into consideration weather and road closures.
  • Pack warm clothing, emergency kit and communication devices
  • Check weather conditions
