Grand Canyon North Rim

Well, it’s that time of the year again. Starting October 16, 2024, the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park will shift to day-use only. This means Grand Canyon Lodge will be closing, and overnight stays, including camping, will no longer be available. If you’re planning a visit after this date, be sure to bring enough food and water for the day to stay self-sufficient.

A self-serve gas station will be available for visitors, accepting only credit and debit cards, as long as State Route 67 stays open. After October 31, the only place to get water will be at the North Rim Administration Building. The gate on State Route 67 will close at sunset on November 30, 2024, or earlier if there’s a big snowstorm.

Additionally, the North Rim Scenic Road leading to Cape Royal will be closed temporarily from October 13 through October 18 for fire management activities, but you can still drive to Point Imperial during this time.

The North Rim Visitor Center, run by the Grand Canyon Conservancy, will close on October 15 at 5 p.m., and the North Rim Backcountry Information Center will wrap up its season on October 31, 2024. The General Store, coffee shop, and gift shop will all close by 11 a.m. on October 16.

If you’re planning to drive to the North Rim between now and November 30, keep in mind that winter conditions can make roads tricky, with snow, ice, and rain being pretty common. To check on road conditions, give Arizona Highway Information a call at 1-888-411-ROAD (7623).
