Rangers Cite Dozens for Entering Grand Canyon After Government Shutdown
The Canyon’s Chief Ranger Bill Wright says people have been discovered sneaking at the South Rim on trails trying to hike.
The citations are being handled by the US Attorney’s Office. Wright says that each of the citations given as of Monday has an order to appear in federal court.
The highway that runs through the Grand Canyon was closed after state officials found visitors moving barricades alongside the road.
Wright says law enforcement will be safeguarding the 24/7. Majority of park empolyees have been furloughed.
