Daredevil Nik Wallenda to tightrope Grand Canyon Summer 2013
As hinted at last year, Nik Wallenda to tightrope the Grand Canyon. After getting the world’s attention in 2012 with a daring tightrope walk over Niagara Falls, Daredevil Nik Wallenda is back at it again.
Wallenda has announced he will be attempting a tightrope walk over the Grand Canyon. The stunt is scheduled for June 23rd, 2013. This time, unlike his Niagara walk, he will be free of any safety harness. Wallenda was forced to wear a harness by ABC, who was the main sponsor for the walk. ABC wanted to ensure they didn’t end up filming a grisly death. This time the walk will be aired by the Discovery Channel with the agreement that no harness need be worn.
The walk will take place across a remote area of Grand Canyon over the Little Colorado River Gorge in an area owned by the Navajo Nation. Wallenda has had his eye on crossing the Grand Canyon but only recently received permission from the Navajo Nation. “This is one that has been on my bucket list for some time” Wallenda told Reuters when contacted.
