Grand Canyon Fire Safety and Restrictions Memorial Day 2022
Coming into the Memorial Day long weekend where additional traffic and overall visitation is high, the Grand Canyon National Park is implementing additional fire restrictions as dry hot weather has increased wildfire potential across the area including Grand Canyon South Rim, home to the Grand Canyon Visitor Center IMAX and IMAX Theatre.
Care should always be taken with fire in a desert setting but increase with the dry weather predicted over the coming weeks. The fire ban will begin May 26th, 2022. Under the restrictions, all campfires and wood and coal burning fires are prohibited. Outdoor smoking is also prohibited. Although probably not relevant for vacationeers, operating chainsaws and other combustion engine tools are also banned.
The dry Grand Canyon weather will be accompanied by warm temperatures. Inner canyon temperatures are expected to reach 108 F over the weekend. So leave the matches and lighters at home, drink plenty of water and enjoy Memorial Day weekend at one of the most majestic places on earth!
