Effective immediately, Grand Canyon National Park will enforce mandatory water conservation measures on the South Rim due to a break in the Trans Canyon Waterline during repairs. This has extended the current water outage.
Residents and visitors must conserve water in homes, hotels, and campgrounds.
Mandatory measures include:
•No lawn or plant watering
•No washing cars, boats, or bikes
•Use dry precleaning for dishes
•Fill the sink to wash dishes instead of running water
•Shorter, less frequent showers
•Turn off water while shaving or brushing teeth
•Minimize toilet flushing
•Report any water leaks
•Remove outside hoses when not in use
Backcountry hikers should carry their own water or methods to treat water. For updates on water availability, visit the park’s Critical Backcountry Updates page.
Concession operations must:
•Switch to disposable dishes and utensils
•Use less water in food prep and dishwashing
•Use low water methods for hotel cleaning
•Serve drinking water only upon request
The Grand Canyon Visitor Center IMAX works to preserve water but are not located within the national park.
