Max Van Geuns from The Netherlands discusses Grand Canyon Adventure
From Landscapes and wildlife to history and adventure, what’s the one thing about the Grand Canyon that has intrigued you?
The diversity of nature. I made 300 pictures, all very different. Also, I liked the cute squirrels and the other hikers who were over all very kind.
What are five things your Backpack to the Canyon must contain?
Food, rainwear, a whistle, a first aid box and of course plenty of water!
What according to you is the best way to get to the Grand Canyon – By Air, By Road or By Rail?
By air and then by road. It’s the fastest and easiest way.
What is travel to you in one word?
Explore
On your travels, what would you choose a book or a camera, and why?
A camera!!! It’s the best place to take beautiful pics!
As a travel destination, how would you rank the Grand Canyon from 1 to 10?
9
Did you visit the Visitor Center? Did you see the IMAX movie, Grand Canyon: Rivers of Time? What did you think?
No, I didn’t knew it exists. But I’ll do next time :)
Tell us a little about yourself! This will be included on the web site. What brought you to Grand Canyon? Where are you from? What do you do? What are your influences?
I’m now 16 years old and this is my second time in the Grand Canyon (last time I was 12 years old). I’m from Amsterdam (the Netherlands) and this is my fifth time in the United States and I love it here. I’m sure I’ll live here some day, perhaps in Chicago. At my first visit to the Grand Canyon, we (my dad and I) did the Bright Angel Trail until the view near to Indian Gardens and back, in 7 hours. I now am a lot bigger and stronger, but back then I thought I was going to die. This time, we made it all the way down to the Phantom Ranch in 4 hours, slept there in open air on the camp ground and made it all the way back next day in the same amount of time. It was a lot more easy than last time and I enjoyed it very much. I’m sure I’ll do this again some day!
