Enjoy the Grand Canyon – For Free – April 19th & 20th 2014

It’s time to go wild during National Park Week at the Grand Canyon National Park. The popular tourist location invites everyone to enjoy history, nature, trails and archaeology between April 19 and April 27. The best part, the national park will waive its entrance fee on April 19 and 20.

In addition to free park admission, visitors can enjoy a free screening of the award-winning, environmental film Watershed. The film tells the story of the mighty Grand Canyon and the Colorado River. Produced and narrated by Robert Redford, the film begins at 7:30 at the Shrine of the Ages.

On April 20, an open-house style celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. is scheduled to take place at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center IMAX Plaza. According to a press release, the public can enjoy fun activities with Green Team members, park rangers, park partners and various organizations and businesses from throughout northern Arizona. The celebration is ‘green’ themed in honor of Earth Day and interactive activities will relate to water and all nature Grand Canyon has to offer. All weekend activities are family friendly and free of charge.

Note: Grand Canyon visitors will still have to pay fees for camping, tours, reservations, and concessions.

Visitors who wish to extend their park visit beyond April 20 will need to pay the regular entrance fee for the remainder of their stay.

In addition to National Park Week, the Grand Canyon National Park will have fee-free days on National Park Service birthday (Aug. 25), National Public Lands Day ( Sept. 27), and Veterans Day ( Nov. 11).
