2017 north rim winter closure

Grand Canyon North Rim Seasonal Reduced Services Begins

The Grand Canyon North Rim is open from dawn-to-dusk day use only in November.  The Grand Canyon Lodge, North Rim Visitor Center, and campground are currently closed for the winter.  They will reopen on May 15, 2022.  Visiting the North Rim in November requires planning and an understanding that services are limited.  Visitors should bring enough food and water for the entirety of their visit and should dress appropriately.  Grand Canyon weather can be cool and winter driving conditions often surprise visitors if unprepared.

There is a Camper/General Store that offers groceries and retail items but choices are limited and only offered as supplies last.  The store operates in November from Tuesday through Saturday 9am to 5pm.  There is also a self serve gas station but if is only open until State Route 67 is open.  North Rim roads are closed to all vehicles between December 1st to May 15th.

Grand Canyon South Rim remains open all year round.  The Grand Canyon Visitor Center at the south rim gates keeps standard hours of 9:00am to 8:00pm. The IMAX Theatre also has standard hours year round.
