Hunt for Eggs and Celebrate Easter at the Grand Canyon

Easter weekend is almost here and there are plenty of exciting activities happening at the Grand Canyon for your family to enjoy during the holiday weekend. From March 31st through April 1st, visitors can enjoy both a fun Easter Egg Hunt and a Sunrise Service to celebrate the festivities.

The Grand Canyon Rotary on the Rim will be holding its annual Easter Egg Hunt starting at 10:00 A.M. on March 31st at the Grand Canyon School soccer field. The egg hunt is open to children ages 0 through 12, with time divided among appropriate age groups. The event is free and the festivities will end around 11:00 A.M. If the games and the hunt itself aren’t enticing enough, one lucky egg hunter will find a $200 gift certificate for a new bicycle!

Parents can get themselves and their little egg hunters energized before the hunt by partaking in the Kaibab Learning Center’s pancake breakfast earlier in that day. From 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M., members of the community can enjoy a plate of pancakes, toppings, sausage, and beverage to enjoy before the hunt begins. Adult breakfast costs $8.00 a plate, a child’s plate is $5.00.

On April 1st, around 1,500 visitors and residents will attend the 83rd Annual Easter Sunrise Service being held at Mather Point at the South Rim. Grand Canyon Community Church Pastor Robert Beaver will lead the worship service. While the service is focused on the interdenominational Christian faith, all are welcome to attend.

The Easter Sunrise Service is scheduled to start at 6:05 A.M. at Mather Point Overlook within the Grand Canyon National Park at the South Rim and will feature classical hymns sung by members of the Northern Arizona University choir. Parking is available within Parking Lot 2 near the Grand Canyon Visitor’s Center. Park visitors can also ride the National Park Service “Blue Route – Village Line” shuttle buses from any of the park lodges to the Visitor’s Center. If you plan on attending, dress warmly as the currently weather conditions are cold and windy in the area. Please allow extra time to arrive as there is heavy road construction within the park.
