From Landscapes and wildlife to history and adventure, what’s the one thing about the Grand Canyon that has intrigued you?

It is impossible to try to explain to somebody who has never been before just how amazing the Grand Canyon is. You can’t appreciate from any photos (no matter how good they are) just how vast it is. It was so far away from what I was expecting, the fact that the Canyon was adourned with trees and plants surprised me too. I have recommended to every one I speak to that if they do one thing in life – visit the Grand Canyon.

Grand Canyon

If this is your first visit to Grand Canyon, what motivated you to visit? If this is a revisit, what’s your reason for wanting to come back?

This was my first visit to the Grand Canyon. One of my brothers lives in Winsconsin now and his wedding was is in Las Vegas. Me, my parents, 2nd brother and other friends made the trip to attend. Our hotel advertised trips to the Grand Canyon and who could be that close and not go and see this amazing place!! So pleased I did.

What are five things your Backpack to the Canyon must contain?

A decent camera – my dad is the photographer of the family so I only had my iphone. Not bad though to be fair!!

Plenty of water – just to keep yourself hydrated while enjoying the sites.

Comfortable shoes – again, due to the distance you need to walk best to be comfotable.

Sun lotion – you are out in the open and sun burn is best avoided!

Good company – they won’t fit in your bag but you need to share your first glimpse of the Canyon with someone!!

What is the best way to get to the Grand Canyon – By Air, By Road or By Rail? Why?

Well we took a bus tour from our hotel in Las Vegas. The scenery on the drive there was amazing and we were very lucky to have a brilliant bus driver who talked to us about all of the scenery on route and told us really interesting facts about the Canyon. The journey passed in no time at all thanks to him.

What is travel to you in one word?

Exciting

What are three tips for an awesome budget trip to the Grand Canyon?

Take your own snacks and drinks and even if you don’t have a top of the range canera take a camera of sorts to record the sites. Allow a little spending money into your budget for the lovely souveneir shops. You don’t have to spend alot to take home a lovely gift as a reminder of your trip.

What type of camera did you bring? Any tips on shooting the Grand Canyon?

As I said earlier, i only had an iphone with me as my dad is the photographer of the family. I was still really impressed with my pictures anyway. Technology today – its amazing!!

What surprised you about the Grand Canyon?

Everything!! The size. The colours. The strories. The history. The wildlife. The fact that you got to see most of the Canyon without being stuck behind walls or fences surprised me most. To stand so close to sheer drops was both frightening but wonderfully amazing because of the unobscured views you got.

Tell us a little about yourself!

I am a married mother of 3 girls and live in Lincolnshire in the United Kingdom. I work full time as an accounts manager for a large haulage company. My hobbies include reading, writing and I enjoy visiting historic sites and areas of natural beauty. I don’t get many opportunnities to travel outside the UK but we have some really beautiful parts of the country to enjoy. The Dorset Coast, numerous National Parks and plenty of castles and cathedrals to name just a few.
