From Landscapes and wildlife to history and adventure, what’s the one thing about the Grand Canyon that has intrigued you?

For me it was definitely the landscape…this time round (as the visit was by helicopter). If I immediately think of the most desirable natural places to visit on planet earth, images like the Great Barrier Reef, Sahara Desert, and of course Grand Canyon come first…and now I’ve finally done one!!! Next time I come back, with friends or grown-up daughters we’ll be hiking.

Approaching the Grand Canyon by Helicopter

If this is your first visit to Grand Canyon, what motivated you to visit? If this is a revisit, what’s your reason for wanting to come back?

From countless books and films whilst growing up, I have always wanted to experience the Grand Canyon, it’s size, the geology, the sight…

The Grand Canyon and its Shadowy Depths

What are five things your Backpack to the Canyon must contain?

water-bottles, map, snacks, first aid kit, fully charged iPhone

The Beautiful Grand Canyon What is the best way to get to the Grand Canyon – By Air, By Road or By Rail? Why?

For me it has to be air, as there are no trains or cars that will survive the route…from Scotland.

What is travel to you in one word?

What type of camera did you bring? Any tips on shooting the Grand Canyon?

Nikon D3100 and my iPhone 4S (which my daughter used)

What surprised you about the Grand Canyon?

Because I was on helicopter I did not expect it to seem so close, it was like I could just reach out and touch. This was also our first ever helicopter ride, I am not yet good at judging distances from this perspective.

Endless Beauty

As a travel destination, how would you rank the Grand Canyon from 1 to 10?

Sephora and Daddy

Tell us a little about yourself!

I’m a half Scot/French and came to USA with my family for the first time over Christmas and New Year 2012/13. Whilst staying in Las Vegas my eldest daughter Sephora, 8 years old and I hired two seats on a helicopter ride. To be perfectly honest I’ve been raving about visiting the Grand Canyon well before departing from Scotland. I’m a paid storyteller here in Edinburgh, also known as a Ghost Tour Guide into the underground vaults, alas I now do that less frequently for I am also the stay home Daddy (which is currently my full time occupation.) I am an aspiring/amateur photographer having recently bought my first camera (a Nikon D3100); I mainly take shots of nature.
